About Ghostbee
Ghostbee is an encaustic photography service. We take your images and enrich and transform them with the magic of beeswax and resin.
Ghostbee is a project of Meredith Hamilton, an encaustic painter who has shown in galleries and open studios throughout the San Francisco bay area. This new endeavor gives me the opportunity to combine my love of photography with my love of the encaustic medium, and to create a product with a unique look and lasting value.
About Encaustic
Encaustic is an ancient painting method, combining beewax, tree resin, and pigments to create a luminous, durable, and beautiful finished product. Unlike oil or synthetic binder based mediums which dry to harden, encaustic is first heated until it’s molten and liquid and then it hardens as it cools.
You can build up multiple layers of paint. Each layer is then melted or fused back together, bonding each layer together. This is called burning in, or in greek, enkaustikos, which is where the word encaustic comes from.
Encaustic paintings are extremely archival and long lasting. They do not yellow with age, and are impervious to moisture. The most famous encaustics are the Fayum Portraits of Ancient Egypt. They were painted in the first century A.D., and they still look as fresh as they did the day they were made.

All of these qualities make encaustic a perfect medium to enhance your photographs, and preservc them through the ages.
